More news about: Wooster

Jessica Wingen delivered nine points and eight rebounds, and Taylor Keegan scored a team-high 11 points, but The College of Wooster was dropped by Washington & Jefferson 69-54 Saturday evening during the Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot at Marietta, Ohio.

The Presidents (1-4) opened the game with back-to-back 3-pointers by Kayla Strimel and Emily Abraham to take 6-0 lead. Wooster (1-3) tied the game at 7-7 moments later when Karly Walker hit her own 3-ball, and a Samantha Sulzer basket kept the score knotted at 13-13, but from that moment on the Scots were forced to play catch up.

Following a small, but critical 9-2 scoring run, the Presidents built a 22-15 cushion that the Scots were never able to recover from. Wingen connected on three consecutive free throws to draw Wooster as close as 24-20, and Walker kept the Scots within 29-25 with another 3-ball, but Washington & Jefferson went into the break on a 9-5 run, and held a 38-30 lead.

The Scots continued to fall further behind during the second half, as a pair of Keegan 3-pointers during consecutive Wooster possessions still had them trailing by 11 (59-48).

Wingen fell just short of her second career double-double, and the sophomore dished out three assists and collected two blocked shots. Keegan scored nine of her 11 points behind the arc, and Walker added 10 points. Also noteworthy, Sulzer pulled down eight boards and chipped in six points in 21 minutes.

Abraham led all scorers with 19 points, including a 5-of-9 effort from 3-point range.

In an earlier tilt during the Jim Meagle Turkey Shoot, Penn State Beaver (2-3) dropped host Marietta (2-2) 68-56, setting up a consolation game between Wooster and the Pioneers tomorrow at 1 p.m.
