NORTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Jeana Trimboli (Norwalk, Conn.) scored 12 of her team-high 16 points after halftime as Wheaton College overcame a six-point second-half deficit for a 58-55 victory in non-conference women's basketball action Monday evening at Emerson Gymnasium.

Trailing 32-26 just over five minutes into the final period, the Lyons went on an 18-6 run over the next 7:24 to grab a six-point lead of their own (44-38).

Wheaton held a 47-42 advantage with 5:52 remaining, only to see a pair of baskets from UNE junior Margo Russell (Madison, Maine) spur a 9-0 spurt that put the visitors up, 51-47.

Trimboli canned a trey on the next possession to halt the streak, and, following a UNE free throw, made a jumper that leveled the contest at 52-52 with 1:58 to play. The Lyons would not trail again.

A Wheaton basket countered by a UNE free throw left the margin at one (54-53) inside of a minute to go. Trimboli converted all four of her attempts from the charity stripe in the final 16 seconds to secure the win.

Junior Gabbie DePalo (Rumson, N.J.) added eight points and six rebounds for the Lyons (2-2), who shot 48.1 percent (13 of 27) in the second stanza.

Russell finished with 18 points (7-for-10 FG) and eight boards -- both game-highs -- as the Nor'easters (4-2) fell for the second straight outing. Junior Kelley Paradis (Newport, Maine) chipped in with 15 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Beth Suggs (Bath, Maine) went for six points and six caroms -- all coming in the closing session.

Big Blue led for the initial 29-plus minutes, jumping out 7-0 early on and gaining a cushion of as high as eight (19-11) midway through the first half, before settling on a 27-24 advantage at the break. Russell recorded 12 of her team's final 17 points in the frame.

Wheaton is back in action Wednesday (7 p.m.) when it hosts nationally-ranked Babson College in the NEWMAC (New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference) opener.

UNE travels to St. Louis later in the week for the McWilliams Classic, and is slated to face tournament host Washington University (Mo.) in Friday's second game (6 p.m.). The Bears were ranked No.7 in the D3hoops.com preseason poll.
