CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Tamara Pena's 10 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and three steals helped power the MIT women's basketball team to a 64-32 victory over non-conference foe Fisher College on Saturday afternoon. Winners of three straight, the Engineers (3-2) surrendered the program's fewest points in a game since the 2000-01 season and saw their percentage of bench scoring during the streak move to 43 percent.

Javanna Bernard put the Lady Falcons (1-3) on the board with a three-pointer in the opening minute, but baskets by Anna Merrifield and Pena gave MIT the slim lead (4-3). On its ensuing possession, Fisher went ahead courtesy of Tiffany Beckman's layup at the 16:36 mark. Following almost two minutes of scoreless play, a put-back and free throw from Lauren Sascha Burton ignited a 26-5 run which resulted in a 30-10 advantage for the Engineers. Leslie Wadhams ended the Lady Falcon's nine-minute scoring drought on a jumper with six seconds left before halftime.

MIT maintained its comfortable margin during the second stanza, as its lead eventually grew to 35 points (55-20) with 8:48 left to play. Fisher responded with an 8-2 spurt that featured six points from Wadhams during the next three minutes. The Engineers closed their scoring with seven unanswered points as Beckman registered the Lady Falcon's final points by going 3-of-4 from the charity stripe down the stretch.

Merrifield posted 11 points, including a 9-of-10 performance at the free throw line, to go along with five rebounds, two assists, one steal, and a block. Coming off the bench, Rachel Hunt recorded 11 points, five boards, and two blocks while Kristen Whaley grabbed 10 rebounds. Burton tallied seven boards, five points, and five assists as Marissa Good, Rebecca Odim, and Sydney Beasley each scored seven points.

As a team, MIT led the way in points in the paint (26-8), points off turnovers (28-7), second-chance points (13-3), and bench scoring (24-3).

Beckman compiled 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, three steals, and two blocks for Fisher. Wadhams finished with eight points and eight boards while Bernard contributed seven points. Talia Hyatt paced the Lady Falcons with nine rebounds, featuring six off the offensive glass, as Erin McDonnell snagged two steals.

MIT kicks off New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday, Nov. 30 at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy while Fisher continues its road swing on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Daniel Webster College.
