No. 12 DePauw women open season with win against No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan

Four DePauw players scored in double figures led by Brooke Osborne with a career-high 20 as the Tigers, ranked 12th by D3hoops.com, knocked off third-ranked Illinois Wesleyan, 77-65. The game, at the Neal Fieldhouse, was the season opener for both schools.

The Titans jumped out to a 7-2 lead, but DePauw scored the next nine and never trailed the rest of the way. The Tigers expanded the margin to as many as 13 in the first half on the way to a 36-24 halftime advantage.

Illinois Wesleyan scored the first five points of the second half before DePauw eventually stretched the lead back to 51-36. The Titans later closed to within 61-53 with just under seven minutes left, but the Tigers scored eight straight to put the game away.

Osborne knocked down 6-of-10 from beyond the arc to lead the Tigers, while Katie Aldrich added 15 points. Ellie Pearson followed with 12 and a game-high nine rebounds and Katie Mathews added 11 points and seven boards. Kate Walker dished out four assists in the win.

Hope Schulte led Illinois Wesleyan with 17 points followed by Stacey Arlis with 14 and Nikki Pearson and Olivia Lett with 11 apiece. Arlis and Britt Hasselbring each grabbed seven rebounds and Preston dished out five assists.

Both teams shot just over 47 percent from the floor, but DePauw held a 43-31 rebounding edge.

Illinois Wesleyan takes on defending national champion Washington University tomorrow at 3 p.m., while DePauw faces Washington on Sunday at 2 p.m.
