DES MOINES - A pair of free throws by Jennifer Jorgensen with five seconds left gave Grand View a 70-69 win against Simpson in the season opener Monday night at Sisam Arena.

Trailing by three with 42 seconds left, Simpson took a 69-68 lead after a Jeni Hegstrom layup with 15 seconds remaining. But Jorgensen drew a foul on Stacey Schutjer on the ensuing possesion, giving Grand View the narrow win.

The Vikings (3-3) led for nearly the entire second half, taking a 43-41 lead with 16 minutes to go in the game. Jorgensen led all scorers with 23 points, adding 10 rebounds. She went 9-for-10 from the free throw line, helping Grand View overcome 28 turnovers on the night.

Schutjer led the way with 15 points for the Storm (0-1), who lost their first season-opener since dropping a 58-50 decision against Calvin in 2005. The returning First Team All-Iowa Conference pick got the majority of her points from the charity stripe, making good on 9 of 11 attempts.

As a team, Simpson shot better than 75 percent from the free throw line.

Mindy Hutchcroft came off the bench to score 13 points on 5 of 10 shooting, accounting for four of the team's 17 steals. She led a Simpson bench which outscored Grand View's, 37-20.

The Storm seek their first win of the season Friday, Nov. 19 when they take part in the Northwestern Tip-Off Tournament in Roseville, Minn. Simpson faces Wisconsin-River Falls at 2 p.m. Friday.
