Medaille Women Outlast #5 Rochester in Season Opener

More news about: Medaille

(Buffalo, NY) – The Medaille College women's basketball team exacted a bit of revenge in their season opener as they hung on for a (53-52) win over fifth ranked University of Rochester in the Sullivan Center this evening.  The Yellowjackets defeated Medaille by two points on their home floor last season.

This time around it would be the Mavs spoiling the night for a Rochester team that advanced to the Final Four in 2009-2010.  The order of the day was defense and both teams dialed it up, but the Lady Mavs excelled in that area and held Rochester to (31.7%) shooting from the field.  They also kept the Yellowjackets from finding any rhythm from behind the arc, limiting them to (2 of 13) shooting from downtown.

The Lady Mavs made shots when they needed to, grabbed critical rebounds, and hung on for a tremendous season opening victory.

Leading the charge for Medaille was junior forward Tanisha Travis (Rochester, NY/Fairport)who was (5 for 12) from the floor for (11) points and grabbed a game high (14) boards.

Senior guard Kacie Mills (Buffalo, NY/Kenmore East) posted a team high (12) points and dished out (4) assists while playing (35 of 40) minutes in the victory.

The win starts the year out for Medaille at (1-0) and they will head to West Point on Wednesday (11/17) to take on Army in an exhibition game at 7:00pm.  They will continue on to NYU afterwards to take part in a tournament there over the weekend.
