Terriers Stumble Out the Gates

November 15, 2010, Waterville, ME – The Thomas College Women's Basketball Team (0-1, 0-0 NAC) began their 2010-2011 campaign this evening in a match up against the Clippers of Maine-Machias (2-1) a member of the NAIA. Both teams came out of the gates a bit sluggish with the first points of the game not coming till three minutes into the game; but it was the Clippers who were able to gain control and knock of the Terriers in their season opener 63-58. This was the fourth game of the season for the Clippers and the first action of the season for the Terriers since facing the Thomas Alumni on November 6th.

Senior Mallorie Blakney (Fairfield, ME) and Sophomore Ashley Matchett (Skowhegan, ME)  both put up double figures as Blakney score a team high 19 points and Matchett tallied 13 points for the Terriers. Matchett also led the Terriers in assist with four.

The Clippers Sabree Rodreiguez was a force to be wrecked with tonight as she put up 27 points, grabbing nine rebounds, and went 4-4 on free throws.

Thomas Senior Alexis Evans (Embden, ME) led the Terriers on defense before fouling out with 7:10 min. remaining in the second half. Evans tallied four steals and one block in her 24 minutes of play.

The Terriers will be back in action as they travel to Wenham, MA to face Gordon College in the Gordon College Tournament on Friday November 19th.
