MADISON, N.J. - Senior guard Riley Collins broke the school record for career assists and the Drew University men's basketball team defeated Goucher 89-63 in a Landmark Conference (LC) affair Saturday afternoon in Baldwin Gym.

The Rangers (17-4, 8-2 LC) were in command from start to finish after racing to a 52-29 halftime advantage.

The Rangers remain tied with Scranton for first place in the Landmark Conference standings after Scranton defeated Catholic on Saturday.

Drew has now posted its best record through 21 games in team history.

The Rangers knocked down a season-high 17 3-pointers - the fourth-best total in program history.

Collins picked up his record-breaking assist early in the game, giving him 432 for his career. The former record was set by Kevin Diverio fro 1986-90. It was the second career record in four games for Collins, who also set Drew's career 3-pointers record versus Scranton back on Jan. 29.

Freshman forward Howard McBurnie, Jr. led a balanced Ranger scoring effort, tying a season-high with 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting while grabbing seven rebounds. Collins added 16 points while shooting 5-for-6, including 4-for-5 from 3-point territory. He also dished out seven assists.

Junior forward Lybrant Robinson also netted 16 points while shooting 6-for-9 and 3-for-5 from distance. Senior guard Michael Boice contributed 11 points while sophomore guard David Gervase chipped in with nine points.

Seventeen Rangers entered the game and 11 players scored a point.

Dwayne Morton paced Goucher (4-17, 1-9 LC) with 21 points.

Robinson scored Drew's first eight points, and his fastbreak dunk made it 8-4. Goucher led briefly in the early going, however, and it was 18-16 seven minutes into the game. But that's when the Rangers broke the game open, outscoring the Gophers 28-7 over the next nine minutes. The run was partly fueled by five 3-pointers, including three in a row at one point, and Robinson capped it with a triple that made it 44-25 with 3:46 on the clock.

Drew led by as much as 25 before assuming its 23-point halftime advantage. Robinson led the Rangers with 16 points at the break.

The hosts put the game out of reach at the start of the second half, outscoring Goucher 12-2 over the opening five and a half minutes. The Rangers led by at least 24 the rest of the way and saw their advantage swell to 38 midway through the half.

The Rangers continue their season on Wednesday, when they travel to Susquehanna for a Landmark Conference tilt starting at 7 p.m.
