How it Happened

Sophomore Ethan Bartlett's three from the corner with nine seconds remaining to lift the 15th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's basketball team to an 80-79 win at Haverford Saturday afternoon.

Hopkins trailed 77-68 with 2:12 to play after a pair Joe Wujciak free throws. Delaney started the come-back with a pull-up three from the top of the key and then followed a Fords' miss with a conventional three-point play with 1:41 to go. Jesse Turkson answered with a jumper on the other end to put Haverford up 79-74 with 1:22 on the clock.

Sophomore Braeden Johnson hit a triple from the elbow at the 1:03-mark to cut the deficit to two. The Fords came up empty on their next possession and the Blue Jays took over with 31 ticks remaining. Junior Conner Delaney drove into the paint and then kicked the ball out to Bartlett, in front of the Blue Jay bench, and he rattled home the go-ahead three-pointer. On the ensuing possession, Wujciak's runner in the paint missed the mark as time expired.

Hopkins led 23-16 at the 12:43-mark of the first half but a Jack Cork jumper and a Jonathan Lang three trimmed the deficit to two just over a minute later. The Blue Jays responded with a 6-2 spurt, but the Fords came right back with a 13-3 run that turned a six-point deficit into a four-point lead with 5:46 left in the half.

A Johnson dunk and a Tom Quarry three quickly gave the lead back to Hopkins. The teams traded scores over the final five minutes of the half and Haverford took a 42-41 lead into the break. They traded punches early in the second before back-to-back threes from Lang and Josh Love staked Haverford to a six-point lead.

The lead was short-lived thanks to back-to-back threes from Bartlett and junior Joey Kern. The teams went back to trading scores and the Fords led 56-54 after an Alex Schachne layup at the 11:07-mark. Nate Torres answered with a layup to spark an 11-3 run that saw the Fords push their lead to 10 with 5:58 to go. Once again, the teams traded scores and Haverford led 77-68 with 2:12 on the clock. Delaney then hit that three that sparked the late come-back.
