LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (Jan. 18, 2020) – Junior guard Marcus Gee (Santa Monica, Calif. / Santa Monica) of the Caltech men's basketball team has been named SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts this week against California Lutheran University and the University of Redlands.

Gee's activity off the ball helped the Beavers to a 56-50 victory at Cal Lutheran on Wednesday and kept his team in the game at Redlands on Saturday. All of the junior's rebounds on the week came on the defensive glass as he corralled five boards, and added a quartet of steals in the victory over the Kingsmen, which was also Caltech's second time holding a team to 50 points or less this year. He also chipped in three assists against the Bulldogs and averaged 12.5 points per game. The third-year standout also went over the thousand point mark during Saturday's game, becoming the fastest Caltech player to 1,000 since program scoring leader Mike Edwards '13.

Monday's award is Gee's second from the SCIAC this season. The junior received recognition for SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week back in November.

Gee and the Beavers will return to home court when they host first-place Pomona-Pitzer Colleges on Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7 p.m.
