St. John's controls Tommies, win 87-70

No. 7-ranked St. John's shot 66 percent from the field and never trailed en route to a 87-70 win over No. 5-ranked St. Thomas in MIAC men's basketball play before 1,900 fans Saturday at Schoenecker Arena.

The Tommies trailed 43-27 at halftime and never got within 14 in the second half.

St. Thomas (11-2 overall, 7-1 MIAC) had a 10-game win streak halted. Tommy Anderson scored 17 points and Elijah Hannah, Anders Nelson and Ryan Lindberg each scored 12 points. The Toms only had six turnovers but were outrebounded 35-23.

The Johnnies (12-1, 8-0) were led in scoring by Zach Hanson's 20 points. Jubie Alade scored all 18 points in the second half.

The Tommies play Wednesday night at Carleton.
