WATERVILLE, Maine -- Sophomore Andrew Snoddy scored a game-high 16 points and the Bates men's basketball team defeated Thomas College 70-55 Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gym. 

Snoddy (Stow, Mass.) made 5-8 shots from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds in the win. He scored 11 of his 16 points and pulled down all seven of his boards in the first half. Three Bobcats finished in double figures, with senior Jeff Spellman (Boston, Mass.) tallying 14 points (nine in the second half) and first-year Stephon Baxter (Worcester, Mass.) making all five of his shots from the floor on the way to 12 points off the bench. 

Junior James Mortimer (Sudbury, Mass.) turned in a balanced performance, scoring eight points, grabbing a team-high nine rebounds and dishing out a team-high three assists.

Lovegeurson Fleurine led the Terriers (6-5) with his fifth double-double of the season, scoring a team-high 15 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. Zach Mackinnon chipped in 12 points, while Demetris Webster added 11 points, nine rebounds and three assists.

The Bobcats outshot Thomas 42.0% to 27.8% from the field.

Bates took command early, holding an 18-5 advantage 10 minutes in on a Baxter three-pointer. Thomas chipped the lead down to six when the Terriers made it 25-19 with 2:36 to go in the half after Tyler Nixon split a pair of free throws. But Bates pulled back to go up 32-22 at the break on a Snoddy layup with just three seconds remaining. The Bobcats kept their distance throughout the second half, with the Terriers never cutting the lead to fewer than eight points. 

With Saturday's win, Bates (7-3) matches its win total from a year ago. 

The Bobcats are back in action Tuesday when they visit Brandeis for a 7pm tip.
