Ripon Uses Hot Start To Coast To Victory Over Lawrence

Ripon (12-9, 8-6 MWC) scored the first five points of the contest, while leading 15-7 less than five minutes into the contest. The Red Hawks led by as many as 22 points in the opening half, while taking a 43-26 lead into halftime. Ripon's defense also showed up in the first half, limiting Lawrence (10-11, 7-7 MWC) to just 29 percent (9-31) shooting in the period.

The Red Hawks led by double digits for the remainder of the contest, despite a late run by Lawrence which cut the lead to 10 with one and a half minutes remaining. The highlight of the second half came on a 3-pointer by Senior Cal Schultz, which gave him 1,000 career points, making him the 31st player in program history to reach that milestone.

Schultz finished the game with 17 points, 14 of which came in the second half, to go along with six rebounds. Trent Jones led all scorers with 22 points on 4-of-7 from 3-point range, while also pulling down six boards. Kyle Rutkowski finished with 14 points, with 13 coming in the first half, to go along with five rebounds (three offensive), two steals, and three blocked shots. Tyson Tully added 13 points, seven rebounds, and three assists, while freshman Ryan Steffes tied a career-high with five assists.

Lawrence was led by Brad Sendell's 22 points, shooting 4-of-7 from 3-point range. George Mavrakis added 18 points, seven rebounds, and two steals off the bench, while Mason Materna and Quinn Fisher each scored 13 points.
