Plattsburgh goes to 7-0 with win vs. Middlebury

Four Cardinals scored in double digits, led by 31 points and 12 rebounds from Jonathan Patron, in the No. 10 Plattsburgh State men's basketball 92-83 win over No. 18 Middlebury on Tuesday night at Plattsburgh's Memorial Hall.

Plattsburgh State remains undefeated and moves to 7-0 overall while Middlebury falls to 5-2.

In an opening half that had seven ties and 11 lead changes, and with the score tied at 20-20, the Cardinals went on a 10-4 run over a span of 3:07 for a 30-24 lead on a jumper by Nick DeAngelis. The Panthers answered with a quick 8-2 spurt, highlighted by a pair of 3-pointers from Max Bosco, for a 32-31 edge with 5:28 showing. After swapping leads, a free throw by Plattsburgh State's Adam Jaquish with 21 seconds left gave the hosts a 42-41 lead at the halftime break.

Out of the intermission, the Panthers moved out to a 54-50 edge on a layup from Bosco with 14:11 remaining, before a DeAngelis jumper tied the score at 57-57. With Middlebury up 60-59, the Cardinals rattled off an 11-3 run over 2:47 of action, including a pair of threes by DeAngelis, gave the hosts a 70-63 advantage with 8:22 left. Middlebury pulled to within 74-71 on a three by Jack Farrell just under two minutes later, but Plattsburgh State slowly pulled away from the Panthers for the nine-point victory.

Farrell finished with a team-best 27 points to go along with four rebounds and a team-best four assists. Matt Folger posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, while Bosco had 14 points off the bench for the Panthers. Hilal Dahleh and Eric McCord each concluded the night with seven points and five rebounds, respectively.

Junior guard Nick DeAngelis ame off the bench to score 17 points for Plattsburgh, senior forward Isaiah Hill cored 12 points and senior guard/forward Chris Middleton had 11 points.

The game was tied 32-32 with five minutes remaining and the Panthers and Cardinals traded off the lead seven more times until it was tied 41-41 with under one minute left.

A free throw by Jaquish put the Cardinals up by one point at halftime.

The second half was tied five times and the lead changed four times before Plattsburgh State took and kept it with two 3-pointers by DeAngelis.

Two free throws from senior guard Brandon Johnson and one from senior forward Ian Howard put the Cardinals up by seven at the 8:22 mark.

Plattsburgh State took their largest lead of 10 points with 1:50 remaining in the game after a 3-pointer from Patron and a layup by Hill.

Middlebury drained a three and Patron finished the game with two free throws for the nine-point win.

The Cardinals out-rebounded the Panthers 49-39 with Middleton, Jaquish and Howard all recording eight.

Plattsburgh State logged 16 assists to Middlebury's 10 with Johnson having five and Middleton with three. Johnson also picked up three blocks.

The Cardinals are on the road Friday to return to SUNYAC play against The College at Brockport at 7:30 p.m.
