More news about: Dominican

The Dominican University men's basketball team snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Aurora University Spartans, blowing out the Spartans in a 96-60 victory that marked the largest margin of victory for the Stars over Aurora in program history.

Dominican used a 9-0 run to close out the first half, including seven points for freshman Ben Walker who finished with a career-high 22 points on 8-for-11 shooting, to open a nine-point, 45-36 lead.

In the second half, Aurora could not find a way to stop the Stars who poured it on, shooting better than 58-percent from the field and 43-percent from three.  Dominican opened the half with a 17-3 run capped by a Josh Mayberry layup to open a 23-point, 62-39, lead with just under fifteen minutes to play.

Dominican continued to build upon its lead, outscoring the Spartans 51-24 in the second half with Mayberry, Walker and Tim Robertson combining for 40 points on 13-for-21 shooting that included seven three-pointers.

The Stars shot 55-percent from the field for the game with Mayberry dropping in a game-high 28 points in 34 minutes of work.  Walker finished with 22, connecting on four of six attempts from three-point range, while Robertson added 20 and pulled down eight rebounds in 35 minutes.

Six different players hit at least one three for Dominican as the Stars knocked down 14 of their 34 attempts from long distance, the most since Dominican hit 14 three's in a loss to Rockford on November 28, 2015.

For the Spartans, the 60 points was the lowest offensive output for Aurora since January 24, 2015, when they scored 55 points in a win over MSOE.  Marcus Myers led four in double-figures with 15 points as the Spartans shot a season-low .343 from the field. Ty Carlson finished with 14, all in the first half, while Max Vickers and Jordan LaGrone added 11 and ten respectively.

The win snapped a four-game losing streak for the Stars, improving their record to 6-7 on the season and 4-5 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC).  On Saturday, the Marian University Sabres visit Dominican for a 4:15 p.m. tipoff in the Igini Sports Forum.  Dominican will be looking to avenge its 61-56 loss at Marian on New Year's Eve.
