More news about: Johnson and Wales
NEWTON, Mass. – A good defense will stop a good offense nearly every time. Unfortunately for Lasell College, the 17th-ranked Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team has both. In the matchup of the GNAC's last two unbeaten teams, the Wildcats rolled to a 101-68 decision on Wednesday.0

Records:
Johnson & Wales: 19-1, 13-0 GNAC
Lasell: 15-5, 12-1 GNAC

JWU Statistical Leaders:
Quarry Greenaway: 32 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals
Tom Garrick: 29 points, 6 rebounds

The Lead:
Icing on the cake for the Johnson & Wales was the achievement of senior guard Quarry Greenaway (Westchester, NY). He made a pair of free throws 38 seconds into the second half to reach the 2,000-point plateau. The NCAA active career leading scorer, Greenaway is sixth player in conference history to reach the mark.

Of Note:
It's fitting that Greenaway scored his 2,000th point at the free throw line. In addition to leading all-active NCAA D3 players in career points, he's also the active leader in free throws made and attempted. Greenaway went 7-of-9 from the line to bump his career totals to 586-of-769.

The first 10 minutes of the game was evenly matched as Logan Liberty hit a free throw to pull the Lasers within 22-19 at the 9:55 mark. Over the next nine minutes, the complexion of the game changed as the Wildcats went on a 22-5 run to build a 44-24 lead on a Jarell Lawson (Providence, RI) three-pointer. In the second half, Lasell got to within in 16, 66-50, before JWU ended the game on a 45-18 run.

Greenaway led all scorers with 32 points on 11-of-19 shooting. He also pulled in seven boards. Three points back of Greenaway was backcourt partner Tom Garrick (Seekonk, Mass.) as he poured in 29 points. Greenaway and Garrick scored 60 percent of the Wildcats' points.

Two other Wildcats reached double figures as Lawson chipped in 14 points off the bench and Michael Kiser (Pike Road, Ala.) added 10. Kiser also tied Greenaway with seven rebounds.

Johnson & Wales national lead in scoring margin will increase with the 33-point victory – the Lasers' largest loss of the season. JWU is tops in the NCAA with a 28.1 points per game scoring margin. The Wildcats hit the century mark in back-to-back games for the first time since the 1997-98 season when they lost to Daniel Webster, 116-106, then beat Rivier, 101-95.

The Wildcats out-shoot Lasell 52.8%-to-40.4%. They forced the hosts into 19 turnovers, which JWU turned into 34 points. Despite facing a taller LC lineup, Johnson & Wales dominated inside with a 52-to-32 advantage in points in the paint.
