Cairn Wins OT Thriller At Rosemont College

More news about: Cairn

Rosemont, PA – With the Highlanders' fifth win of the season tonight at Rosemont College, Cairn has already had their best season since the '09-'10 season. The men's basketball team won 97-94 in overtime over the Ravens on Wednesday evening to stop their two-game slide.

The Highlanders felt déjà vu after the Ravens tied the game at 81-81 with seconds on the clock in regulation, sending them into their second overtime game in a row. Unlike last game however, Cairn was able to make their free throws down the stretch to maintain the lead and take home the win.

Offensively, Cairn could not have played a much better game as they shot 50% from the field (34-68), 34.6% from three-point range, and 76.9% at the free throw line. Gerroid Doughty II led the Highlanders with 24 points (9-18 FG).

Following Doughty II in points for Cairn was Jason Kuntzelman with 20, Julian Collazo with 17, JD Zamrozwith 14, and Chris Uhrich with 10. Uhrich went 4-4 off the bench and collected six rebounds with three assists. Kuntzelman and Doughty II each had eight rebounds in the game.

Another strong performance came from Jordan Sharpe who pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked six shots. Sharpe now has 18 blocks for the season with six being a game-high for him this year.

Marcus Thomas, who finished with 32 points and five assists, led Rosemont on the offense. Thomas seemed to make every basket when he needed to keep his team in the game down the stretch, including the game-tying three at the end of regulation.

Cairn only missed one shot from the field in the overtime period, compared to the Ravens' five missed shots. More importantly, the Highlanders went 8-11 in overtime from the free throw line to stay ahead of the Ravens.

As stated above, the Highlanders improved to 5-2 overall with the win and also moved to 2-0 in the conference. The Ravens dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the CSAC with the loss. Cairn will next face the conference champions from last year as they travel to Neumann University on Saturday, Dec. 5.
