Walton-Moss' 8th Triple-Double Leads Cavaliers to 91-82 Senior Night Win

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team closed its regular season with a bang tonight, as the Cavaliers scored a 91-82 Senior Night win over Gwynedd Mercy University at Nerney Field House.

The Blue and White's seventh consecutive victory closes the team's regular season at 16-9 overall and 13-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.  

By virtue of the win, Cabrini also earns the top seed in next week's CSAC Tournament.  The Cavaliers get a bye into Tuesday's semifinal round, a game that will be played at Nerney Field House.

Tonight also marked the club's Senior Night.  Prior to the game, the Cavaliers honored seniors Howard Blake III, Vinny Walls and Aaron Walton-Moss.  Jason Williams, the team's manager for the last four years, was also recognized at halftime.

This is among the most successful classes in program history, amassing 98 victories, including a 64-8 mark in conference games, three Colonial States Athletic Conference titles, two appearances in the NCAA Elite Eight and the school's first appearance in NCAA championship game.  

The Cavaliers displayed tremendous balance in tonight's win, as six players recorded double figures.  Walls led the way with 23 points, on 10-15 from the floor.

Walton-Moss continued his incredible season, as the senior recorded his eighth triple-double of the season with 16 points, 13 rebound and 13 assists, whle shooting 6-8 from teh floor and 4-5 from the free throw line.

Freshman Tyheim Monroe posted his sixth double-double, pairing 16 points and 10 boards off the bench. Sophomore Ronny Paden added 13 points, while classmate Ryan Charity scored 12.  Freshman Jair Green scored 11 points.

Gwynedd Mercy used its hot shooting from three point range to take control of the game in the opening minutes.  The Griffins connected on 7-15 from deep in the first half to build a 31-21 lead with 8:36 left in the first half.

Just over 40 seconds later, the game changed.  Charity's triple sent the Cavaliers into another gear, as the Blue and White closed the half on a 22-5 run.  Walton-Moss found Green for an alley-oop that sent Cabrini into the halftime break with a 43-36 lead.

After a Walls triple to open the second half, Gwynedd Mercy cut its deficit back to 46-42.  Minutes later, another Walls three pointer anchored a 7-2 spurt, as the Cavaliers pushed their lead back to 53-44 with 16 minutes to play.

The Cavaliers continued to force the pace, as it never allowed the Griffins to regain their touch from deep, connecting on just one of its final 16 three point attempts.  Meanwhile, the Blue and White shot nearly 53% from the floor after the break, as its lead grew to 91-71 in the game's final minutes.

Cabrini will now wait until the conclusion of Saturday's CSAC quarterfinal round games to learn its semifinal opponent.  Third seed Rosemont will host sixth seed Immaculata, while Gwynedd Mercy, the number four seed hosts fifth seeded Centenary.  

The lowest seeded winner will visit Nerney Field House on Tuesday, while the second lowest seed will visit number two seed Neumann.  Friday night's title game will be played on the home court of the highest remaining seed.
