Hope Men's Basketball Races To 83-65 Win At Kalamazoo

Junior Alex Eidson matched his season-high 22 points as the Hope College men's basketball team claimed its fourth consecutive victory on Saturday at Kalamazoo.

The Flying Dutchmen won 83-65 to raise their record to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association play.

Eidson, a guard from Grand Haven, Michigan (Grand Haven HS), netted 22 points for the third time this season. He led all scorers.

Junior Ben Gardner of Carmel, Indiana (Carmel HS), chipped in 20 points, while junior Brock Benson of Willowbrook, Illinois (Hinsdale South HS), scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

Benson produced 16 points in the first half alone to help Hope charge to a 41-24 halftime lead. The Flying Dutchmen closed the final 7 minutes, 17 seconds of the first half on a 23-7 run.

The Flying Dutchmen shot 50.9 percent from the field for the game (28-of-55) and 84.6 percent from the foul line (22-of-26).

Benson, the MIAA's top field-goal shooter, went 72.7 percent from the field (8-of-11).

Hope returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28. The Flying Dutchmen complete the first half of MIAA play at Adrian at 7:30 p.m. Tipoff is 7:30 p.m.
