NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Lehman College men's basketball team cruised past Hunter College, on the road, to earn a CUNY Athletic Conference victory, 78-55, on Friday evening. Lehman completes the first half of its conference schedule, 5-3 in CUNYAC play, while Hunter falls to 3-5.
Senior guard Jonathan Greenfield (Hartford, Conn./Windsor) scored a game-high 22 points, while classmate Olando Minott (Bronx, N.Y./Samuel Gompers) had 18 points, with five steals, and four assists. The Lightning never trailed at any point in the game.
Lehman (10-7, 5-3 CUNYAC) came flying out of the gate, by scoring the game's first nine points, capped off by a layup from freshman guard John Brens (Washington Heights, N.Y./All Hallows). The Lightning's defense held Hunter (6-10, 3-5 CUNYAC) scoreless for the first 5:15 of the game. The visiting team was able to build its lead throughout the first half, as a three-point shot from freshman guard Andrew Utate (Washington Heights, N.Y./Mount Saint Michael Academy) put Lehman up, 24-9, with 9:06 left in the opening stanza. Both teams went into the half with Lehman up, 38-23.
The Lightning once again dominated in the second half, as Hunter never made the game close. A layup from junior forward Jobse Reyes (Bronx, N.Y./Boys and Girls) in the closing seconds gave Lehman its largest lead of the game, 78-55, and that would be the final score.
The Lightning will be on the road once again, for another CUNYAC contest, this time against John Jay. The game will be played on the campus of the College of Staten Island, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
