Nichols goes to 6-0 in CCC with big win over UNE

DUDLEY, Mass. -- Gustave Koumare tallied a career-high 27 points on 11-of-14 shooting to help pace Nichols College to a 100-46 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's basketball win over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 10).

The Bison (9-4) up their conference ledger to 6-0 with the victory, while the Nor'easters slip back to 3-9 overall (1-4 CCC).

Koumare knocked down 5-of-8 from long distance to aid his scoring output, and also tallied seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Irving Eggleston chipped in with 22 points, and Christian Horton finished with 17 points and seven assists. A fourth player in double figures for Nichols was Matt Langadas, who recorded 16 points. Reserve Chris Johnson collected a game-best nine boards as the hosts posted a 46-33 margin in rebounding.

As a team, the Bison connected on 59 percent of their shots (and 8-of-17 from deep) in the 1st half on the way to 60 points at the break. For the game, NC made 53 percent from the floor and turned 19 steals into 35 points off UNE turnovers.

Big Blue got 11 points off the bench from first-year Mano Senthil. Junior Devin Thompson had an additional nine points, and first-year reserve Gavin Dibble contributed seven more.

After a scoreless opening two minutes to the game, the Nor'easters went up on the board first. Nichols answered with 12 straight and assumed a 25-4 cushion before the midway mark of the period. The margin reached as high as 60-18 before settling on a 40-point spread at intermission.

UNE gets back to action on Tuesday (7:30 p.m.) at Western New England University.
