Oglethorpe's Tyler Courson to Participate in Georgia Coaches' Senior All-Star Game

Oglethorpe senior Tyler Courson is set to compete in the Georgia Basketball Coaches' Association (GABCA) Senior All-Star Game Saturday, which will take place on the campus of Oglethorpe at Dorough Field House. The event gets started at 7:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

This is the fifth annual event of its kind hosted by GABCA, which features the best senior players in the state across multiple levels of competition.This also marks the fifth year in a row that Dorough Field House has played host to the event. Players who compete at NCAA Divisions II and III, NAIA and National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA)institutions are eligible to compete in the Senior All-Star Game. This year's game will feature 25 competitors from 12 schools representing Divisions II and III, as well as the NAIA. The two teams will be coached by Piedmont's Greg Neely (Division III) and Dalton State's Tony Ingle (NAIA).

Courson joins a list of Oglethorpe seniors to have participated in the event that includes Branden Jovaag, Christian Molinet, Andrew Steioff, Tyler Cerone, Joe Kennedy, Todd Ward and David Allison. He earned his first career all-conference honors this year when he was named All-SAA Second Team by the league's coaches. He finished fourth in the league in scoring (15.9 points per game) and in steals (1.5 per game). He did this while playing the most minutes of anybody in the league, averaging 35.9 per game. He earned three SAA Player of the Week awards this season. He was named to the SAA All-Tournament team for his fine work in that event, which included a game-winning shot with four seconds left in the semifinals against Birmingham-Southern and 21 points in the final against Centre. He was also named to the All-Equinox Classic team for his work in that season-opening event in which the Petrels went 2-0.

As part of the lead-up to the event, GABCA will announce its All-State Awards on Friday, which will feature All-State teams and player, newcomer and coach of the year honors for Division II, Division III and NAIA/NCCAA/junior college.
