BABSON PARK, Mass.—Junior David Mack (Holden, Mass.) scored 15 points and pulled down 10 rebounds, while classmate John Wickey (Manchester, N.H.) added 14 points as visiting Babson College defeated MIT, 53-42, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon at Rockwell Cage.

With its seventh consecutive victory, Babson closed out the regular season at 20-5 overall and 11-3 in the NEWMAC, while MIT drops to 17-8 overall and 8-6 in conference play.

Junior Matt Redfield (Los Altos, Calif.) had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Engineers. First-year Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) came off the bench to finish with 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting.

Trailing 14-8 at the 11:13 mark of the first half, the Beavers closed the stanza with an 18-5 run to take control of the game. Mack scored nine straight points to put the Green and White in front 17-15 with 6:27 to go in the period, and first-year Sam Bohmiller (Franklin, Mass.) and Wickey followed with back-to-back three-pointers to make it 23-15 with 4:16 left until halftime.

First-year Ryan Frankel (New York, N.Y.) knocked down a jumper to cut the Babson lead to six, but Wickey drilled another three just before halftime to make it 26-19 after 20 minutes.

Senior Matt Palazini (Franklin, Mass.) opened the second half with a three-point play, and Wickey and first-year Joey Flannery (Acton, Mass.) scored on back-to-back trips to give the Beavers a 33-19 edge. Redfield momentarily stopped the run with a layup for the Engineers, but four straight points from Mack put the Beavers up 37-21 with 13:16 left in the game.

The Green and White took its biggest lead of the afternoon at 44-28 on a Bohmiller layup with 8:05 remaining, and despite not making another field goal, MIT would get no closer than 10 the rest of the way.

The Beavers shot just 36.5 percent (19-for-52) on the afternoon, but held the Engineers to 32.6 percent (15-for-46) from the floor, and outscored them 28-14 in the paint. The Beavers also scored 18 points off 16 MIT turnovers.

Babson, which earned the second seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, will take on third-seeded Springfield next Saturday at WPI in a 3 p.m. tipoff. The Engineers, who are seeded fourth, will host fifth-seeded Emerson on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

GAME NOTES: Babson is now 47-19 all-time against the Engineers and recorded its first sweep of MIT since the 2007-08 season…the Beavers now have 20 wins for the 10th time in program history and the first since the 2003-04 season…Babson's 11 conference victories are its most since the NEWMAC was formed in 1998, and the second-most league wins in head coach Stephen Brennan's 19-year tenure…the Beavers have won 24 consecutive games when holding their opponent under 40 percent shooting…Babson has won 10 of its last 14 road games going back to last season.
