MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Freshman center Bryce Miller scored 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds but it wasn't enough to prevent host Augsburg from defeating Pacific Lutheran, 73-65, in a non-conference men's basketball contest played Friday night at Si Melby Hall.

Augsburg used a balanced attack to remain unbeaten on the year, improving to 8-0 for the first time since the 1979-80 season, when the Auggies rattled off 20 in a row to start the year. Pacific Lutheran fell to 2-8 with the loss.

Tyler Schmidt finished 5-for-10 from beyond the three-point arc to end up with a season-high 18 points for the Auggies, who had six players score in double figures. Dan Kornbaum, the team's leading scorer at 18 points per game, scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds, while Andy Seidlitz tallied 10 points, eight rebounds and six assists.

PLU built its largest lead at 17-12 on Miller's layup about eight minutes into the contest. By halftime Augsburg had grabbed a 33-28 advantage, however, and it was able to extend the lead to as many as 13 points in the second half before an aggressive Lutes defense started to pressure the Auggies. Pacific Lutheran was able to cut its deficit to 67-61 with just under 50 seconds to play, but the Auggies made all six of their three throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

For the game, Augsburg shot 44 percent (23-for-52) from the field, while the Lutes converted on 41 percent (25-for-61) of their shot attempts. Augsburg claimed a narrow 34-33 advantage on the boards and held advantages at the free-throw line (19-for-26 compared to 10-for-13) and beyond the arc (8-for-19 compared to 5-for-20).

PLU senior guard Drew Earnest finished wtih 15 points, three assists and three steals, and senior wing Cameron Schilling added 11 points.

Pacific Lutheran plays its final non-conference game of the 2012-13 schedule at 5 p.m. (CT) Saturday when it travels to River Falls, Wis., to take on Wisconsin-River Falls.
