Northfield, Vt. – The Johnson & Wales University men's basketball team had their seven game win streak snapped with an 88-86 setback against Norwich in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Andrews Hall on Saturday afternoon.

Johnson & Wales was led by junior Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) with 31 points, four boards and four assists while junior Calvin Jones (Providence, R.I.) had 25 points and eight boards for JWU.  Senior Louis Ferreras (Providence, R.I.) notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 boards in the setback.

Norwich was paced by Antonio Davis with a game-high 36 points and 10 rebounds while Jaren Jeffcoat had 23 points and seven boards for the Cadets.  Josh Cabrera rounded out the double figure scorers with 13 points and three boards in the victory.

The two teams traded baskets early with the score tied 14-14 with 12:49 left on the clock.  JWU then used a 16-6 run, capped by a three pointer by Thomas to take a 30-20 lead with 7:12 remaining in the stanza.  That would be the largest lead in the half for the Wildcats as they headed into the locker room with the 44-39 lead.

Norwich continued to chip away at the lead and took the 63-61 lead on a jumper by Jeffcoat with just over eleven minutes left in regulation.  The Cadets extended their lead to seven when a free throw by Darell Marshall put the squad up 83-76 with 2:52 left.  The Wildcats responded and cut the lead to 85-84 on a layup by Thomas with :26 on the clock.  That would be as close as the Wildcats would get, however as Norwich hit 3-of-4 from the line down the stretch en route to the 88-86 victory.

With the loss Johnson & Wales is now 15-7 overall and 12-3 in the GNAC while Norwich improves to 13-8 for the season and 9-5 in league play.  The Wildcats will return to action on Tuesday, February 15th when they host Albertus Magnus for a GNAC matchup, starting at 7:00 p.m.
