ONEONTA, NY – Hartwick's men's basketball team (2-0) broke College records for three-pointers made in a game (20) and three-pointers attempted (38) and reached the century mark for the first time since 2001 in a 102-60 win over St. Joseph's College on Friday night in the nightcap of the Tom Greene Memorial Tournament at Lambros Arena. The Hawks advance to tomorrow's championship game against Geneseo at 4 p.m.
Thirteen players made it into the scoring column in the game and 10 players made at least one three-pointer for the Hawks, who shot 49% (37-for-56) from the floor and 53% (20-for-38) from downtown.
The Hawks' previous best for three-pointers in a game was 16 in a 94-68 win over Oneonta State on January 21, 1996. The last time they crossed the 100-point barrier in a game was a 105-94 win over Cazenovia on February 13, 2001.
Senior Martin McCann (Hopewell Junction, NY/Our Lady of Lourdes) led the Hawks with 16 points while connecting on four of five attempts from beyond the arc. Freshman Shiva Senthil (Clifton Park, NY/Central Catholic) contributed 16 points and four treys and freshman Jared Suderely (Newport, NY/West Canada Valley) notched a double-double with 11 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Freshman Mike Geisser (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) also made it into double figures with 10 points.
St. Joe's was led by Ismael Dabo's 18 points. Donald Coleman added 15.
Aaron Laing (Laurens, NY/Laurens) contributed a career-best nine points for the Hawks, who led 52-26 at the half. Freshman Jake Karker (Howes Cave, NY/Schoharie) hit four of five shots for eight points.
The Hawks will play for the tournament title against Geneseo (2-0), an 81-77 winner over Mount Saint Mary (0-2) in the day's first game. The Blue Knights outscored MSMC 13-1 over the final two and a half minutes to secure the victory. John Drazen led four Geneseo players in double figures with 18 points. Mount Saint Mary's Carlos Valdez led all scorers with 24 points. Joe Stabach added 23.
