Jessica Rahman, who won a national championship at Concordia-Moorhead as a player and 273 games there as the head coach, announced she is leaving her position.
"God has led me to places, people and experiences that I could never have imagined for myself," Rahman said in the College's release. "I've been truly blessed with the people in my life and the opportunity to play and coach the game of basketball for over 30 years. I came into coaching because of God's calling and now have a new calling and am excited for the new chapter."
Jessica (Beachy) Rahman was Concordia-Moorhead's most decorated player, earning the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) player of the year award in 1988 and leading the Cobbers to the national championship that season. The Cobbers defeated St. John Fisher 66-57 in the national championship game and Beachy was named to the All-Tournament team. She was a four-time All-American and scored 2,101 points in her career, which is still the program record.
In 2003 Rahman returned to the College to bring stability to a Cobbers program that changed head coaches three times in four seasons before her arrival. Rahman went 273-152 in 16 seasons at her alma mater with her best season coming in 2012-13. The Cobbers won the MIAC regular season title and reached the 2013 NCAA Tournament where they lost to UW-Stevens Point. Rahman was named MIAC Coach of the Year in 2005 and 2009.
"Jessica was one of our most storied women's basketball coaches and players as well," Concordia Athletic Director Rachel Bergeson said in the school's release. "She has embodied the mission of the institution ever since she stepped on campus as a player and most recently as a coach. I can't thank her enough for everything she has done for Cobber basketball, the athletic department and the entire college."
Concordia-Moorhead finished 8-17, 5-13 in the MIAC last season.
