After eight seasons as Alma's head coach, Sam Hargraves will take over another MIAA program. He was named the new head coach at Olivet College.

Olivet Director of Athletics Ryan Shockey made the announcement.

"By hiring Sam, we have brought in a well-respected and well-known coach in the state of Michigan," said Shockey in the release. "We are honored for him to join our staff, and confident he can continue to build on the success we have had over the last two seasons."

Hargraves replaces Stephen Ernst who went 38-41 in three seasons with the Comets. Olivet won a program-best 16 games and shared the MIAA title under Ernst two seasons ago. Olivet finished 13-14, 8-6 in the MIAA last season.

During the 2015-16 season Hargraves led Alma to a 24-7 record and a trip to the round of eight in the NCAA Tournament. The Scots struggled the past three seasons with their record sliding to 5-22, 4-10 in the MIAA last season. Alma lost eight of its last nine with the lone win coincidentally coming against Olivet.

"First, I am grateful for my time at Alma College," said Hargraves in the release. "It's never easy leaving a place you have worked and had success at. But, I want to thank Ryan (Shockey), President (Steven) Corey and the entire search committee for giving me this opportunity. I am looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to be next head men's basketball coach at Olivet was one too good to pass up."
