Jeff Slanovec

FDU-Florham named Jeff Slanovec, who played three sports at Misericordia and coached two at Gettysburg, as its new head men's basketball coach.

"We are very excited to welcome Jeff Slanovec to the Devils family," Director of Athletics Jenn Noon said in the University's released. "Jeff has been mentored by many distinguished coaches thus I am confident he is ready to become FDU's 8th Head Men's Basketball coach.  Jeff's connections within the MAC Freedom Conference and tri-state basketball community will aid in his success."

Slanovec earned nine varsity letters during his four years at FDU-Florham's conference rival Misericordia -- four in basketball, four in baseball and one in golf. Slanovec was a 1,000 point scorer in basketball, all-conference in baseball and Conference Rookie of the year in golf.

After finishing his playing career, Slanovec worked as a graduate assistant and recruiting coordinator at his alma mater for two seasons. He then joined George Petrie's staff at Gettysburg where he was an assistant for four seasons. He was also the College's assisant golf coach.

"I'm thrilled to be back in the MAC Freedom conference and am eager to build this program into a championship contender," said Slanovec in the release. "It is my goal to prepare our student-athletes to be champions not only on the court, but also champions off the court, who are ready to lead successful lives long after the final buzzer sounds."

Slanovec's hiring continues an offseason of transition for FDU-Florham athletics.

Marc Mitchell, who led the Devils to a women's basketball national championship in 2014, took the head coaching job at Division I St. Peter's. His vacancy was filled by Army West Point assistant Melissa Brooks. The University also promoted field hockey and women's golf head coach Jenn Noon to Director of Athletics.

FDU-Florham finished 3-22, 3-11 in the MAC Freedom last season.
