Former Keene State men’s basketball associate head coach, Tyler Hundley, has been named the Worcester State men’s basketball head coach.
He replaces David Lindberg, who coached for 24 seasons. His departure was not announced, however, he finished with a 281-351 career record. The Lancers were 3-22 this past season.
“I am excited to welcome Tyler Hundley as the new head coach of our basketball program,” stated athletic director Michael Mudd. “Tyler provides the skill set that I felt gives Worcester State University’s men’s basketball program the best opportunity to succeed in the classroom, in the community, and on the court. The overall experience we offer at Worcester State to our student-athletes as well as the general student population, provides us the opportunity to really enhance our basketball programs.”
Hundley spent the past three seasons at Keene State. He started as a men’s basketball assistant during the 2015-16 season, and was promoted to associate head voach in the summer of 2016. During his time with Keene State, he played an integral part in the success of the Owls’ basketball program, helping the team reach the Sweet 16 and Elite 8. Hundley also acted as the recruiting coordinator for the team and was responsible for delegating recruitment activities, maintaining database of communications, and planning visits with prospective student-athletes. Other duties at Keene State included practice planning, on-court coaching, scouting, monitoring academic performance, and organizing an Owls Prospect camp.
“It is an honor and privilege to join the Worcester State men’s basketball program as head coach,” Hundley said. “I look forward to working with this talented and dynamic group of student-athletes. I have high expectations for our success both on and off the court and in the Worcester community. I would like to thank Michael Mudd and the search committee for giving me the opportunity to lead this program and start a new and exciting chapter for the Worcester State men’s basketball program,” said Hundley.
The school received more than 100 inquiries about the position in less than two weeks. “We had numerous strong candidates,” said Mudd. “At the end of the day I felt that Tyler is the right guy to lead the charge. I would like to thank the search committee with their attention to detail in the vetting process.”
Prior to Hundley’s time at Keene State, Hundley worked as assistant coaches at both Lasell and Salve Regina.
Hundley is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State, where he received his bachelor’s degree in sports and leisure management, and was a member of the Warriors’ team that reached the Division III Sweet 16.
