Oakland announced his resignation to accept an assistant coaching position under Maren Walseth at Division I North Dakota State. Oakland is the second consecutive Coe women's coach to leave for a Division I assistant position, following Randi (Peterson) Henderson who left the Kohawks for a position at Charlotte.
Oakland went 27-26 in two seasons as a head coach with the Kohawks.
Coe Director of Athletics John Chandler announced that Kayla Waskow will take over as the Kohawks' new head coach.
Waskow has four years of coaching experience, two on Oakland's staff at Coe and two as a graduate assistant at Aurora.
Waskow also has a history of success at Coe. She played four years for the Kohawks and was selected all-conference each one. She was the conference's most valuable player and a second-team All-Region selection as a senior in 2011-12. Waskow owns eight school records, including the career scoring mark with 1,583 points.
Coe finished 12-14, 7-9 in the IIAC last season.
