Derek Hart's supporters came out early and came out often, helping the Clarkson forward lead wire-to-wire to clinch a spot in the 2017 Reese’s® Division III College All-Star Game.

The second spot was a much closer battle, however, and in the wee hours of Wednesday morning, Bobby Brackett of TCNJ took over second place from Medaille's Johnathan Belton, who had been running in second place from the get-go. But Belton's backers pulled it out and the Mavericks guard, who is second in Division III in steals credited per game with 3.3, made sure he will get a chance to show those skills in a game where defense is more of an afterthought.

Hart averaged 22.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 64 percent from the floor for the 12-13 Golden Knights. Belton, who averaged 18.0 points and 4.1 assists per game, led his Mavericks to the NCAA Tournament, where they finished with a 21-7 record. 

Hart and Belton two will join a roster of eight other players on each side, to be announced after the national semifinal participants are determined with this weekend's games in the rounds of 16 and 8. Some of the players under consideration may have to be replaced if their team wins this weekend and plays in the Final Four. 

For the second consecutive year, more than 70,000 votes were cast. Hart's vote total was the second-most votes cast for a player in the seven years of the final vote, behind the 28,124 received by Rhodes' Andrew Galow in 2013. 

The game, which will be played on Saturday, March 17, is open to seniors who have completed their eligibility. The game will be streamed live, with a link available on D3hoops.com.
