After a nationwide search, Wesley College Director of Athletics Mike Drass named Dean Burrows as the new head coach of the Wolverines men's basketball program. Burrows has served the past three years on the coaching staff, and spent last season as assistant head coach.
"We are excited to announce the hiring of Coach Burrows as our new men's basketball head coach," said Drass. "Dean has done an outstanding job with our program over the last three years. He has been Coach Kobasa's primary recruiter and his right hand when it has come to our basketball program."
In his first three seasons, Burrows has witnessed first-hand the rewriting of the men's basketball program's record book. During his time on staff, the Wolverines have amassed an overall record of 55-26 with a 33-13 mark against Capital Athletic Conference opponents.
Through the duration of Burrows' tenure, Wesley has earned a CAC regular season crown, two CAC playoff berths, a CAC finals appearance, two NCAA Tournament appearances, and the program's first-ever NCAA Tournament victory. The Wolverines earned a win over the nation's top team (Virginia Wesleyan, Dec. 20, 2012) and were ranked in the D3Hoops.com Top 25 poll on several occasions, climbing as high as No. 6 in the nation with Burrows on staff.
As an assistant coach, he helped to set program records for wins in a season (20) and consecutive wins (11) in the 2012-2013 campaign. The next year, Burrows and the Wolverines reset both of those records, winning 23 contests including 12 straight.
Prior to joining the college ranks, Burrows coached basketball at the high school level for 11 years. Burrows broke into the coaching ranks at his alma mater, Salesianum School (Wilmington, DE), where he served as an assistant for three years. He then spent five years as an assistant coach at Bishop Verot Catholic High School in Fort Myers, Fla. before returning to his native Delaware to take over the program at St. Thomas More Academy in Magnolia.
