Murphy out after two decades at Alfred

Jay Murphy, who has spent the past 20 years as a head coach at Alfred and 32 years as a Division III basketball head coach, is out at Alfred. The school has posted for his position.

Murphy spent the past eight seasons as the head women's basketball coach, finishing with a career record of 58-117 (.331). The Saxons were 6-19 each of the past three seasons.

Murphy coached the Saxons men's basketball for 13 seasons and was 207-420 (.330) in 25 years as a collegiate head men's basketball coach, including 12 years at Clarkson. Alfred made one NCAA Tournament appearance, in 1997, when the Saxons finished 14-12, the tournament was 64 teams and eight teams were guaranteed to the East Region, one of the smallest in Division III. He had three winning seasons as a men's basketball head coach.
