There will be a bit of housecleaning at Goucher this offseason, as the school will be hiring new men's and women's basketball coaches.
Leonard Trevino, the only coach the Goucher men's basketball program has ever had, and Didi Cotton, a former player who has coached the women's program for the past decade, both resigned, it was announced Tuesday, March 3.
The men's program is coming off a 4-21 season, while the women were 5-19.
Trevino, who coached for 25 years and had, for a time, built the Gophers into a regional contender, compiled a 277-354 mark in his career.
His teams compiled back-to-back-to-back seasons of 20 or more wins from 1997-99. The Gophers shocked defending champion Lebanon Valley in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 1995, defeating the Mike Rhoades-led Dutchmen 102-91 before falling at Wilkes in the second round. The Gophers advanced to the second round in 1997 and were knocked out in the second round in 1999 after a first-round bye, capping a 23-5 season. The program has had just two winning seasons since, however.
Cotton, who played at Goucher from 1993-96 and remains the fourth-leading scorer all-time in the program's history, coached the Gophers for 10 seasons, compiling a 55-182 mark. Goucher had never won more than seven games in a season under Cotton.
