On a Saturday for rivals, one team took down the No. 1 team in the country, the biggest rivalry in Division III had a big performance by a preseason All-American, and another huge rivalry was won in the closing seconds.

The University of Chicago jumped out to a 22-10 lead on top-ranked Washington University and cruised from there, rolling to a 63-43 win over its University Athletic Association rival and starting out the UAA schedule on the right foot.

Alex Voss led the Maroons (9-3, 1-0) with 16 points, while Collin Barthel had a game-high 15 rebounds off the bench and Tyler Howard had 11 points and nine assists.

Jordan Brink poured in 29 points, including 4-for-6 shooting from 3-point range and a perfect 7-for-7 from the line, to lead Calvin past archrival Hope 88-64 in front of a capacity crowd of 3,434 at the DeVos Fieldhouse.

With the win, the Knights, who started the season the preseason No. 6 team in the country before losing four of their first nine games, improve to 9-4, 2-0 in the MIAA. Alex Eidson, who entered the game as Hope's most prolific 3-point shooter, was held scoreless on 0-for-8 shooting, 0-for-5 from beyond the arc. It's the second consecutive loss for the Flying Dutchmen after their blowout win over Ohio Wesleyan.

Ryan Kilcullen drained a 23-footer with 4.2 seconds left on the clock and Amherst's last-second off-balance shot was wide as Williams defeated its archrival 71-70. Williams had not led since the 14:30 mark and trailed by as many as eight with 4:00 left before outscoring the No. 18 Lord Jeffs 14-5 down the stretch for the win. Daniel Wohl led the way for the Ephs (10-4, 1-1 NESCAC) with 28 points, while Kilcullen added 12.

Ryan Frankel had 14 points and Larry Anderson won his 300th career game as MIT took down its engineering archrival, as the Engineers of MIT defeated the Engineers of No. 7 WPI 51-46. WPI was down seven in the closing minute, its largest deficit of the game, and MIT missed three of six free throws in the final 50 seconds but was able to hold on.

Sixth-ranked Emory won in a place where it has struggled in the past, as Alex Foster scored 26 of his game-high 34 points in the second half en route to an 84-69 win at Rochester. The Yellowjackets fell to 4-8. No. 10 North Central won at Wheaton for the first time since 2011, defeating the Thunder (7-7, 0-3 CCIW) 75-70 in overtime. Charlie Rosenberg had 27 points and 14 rebounds and drew a charge on Wheaton's last possession to seal the victory.

Jordan Johnson hit a jumper with 11 seconds left in the second overtime as Wesley defeated Mary Washington 90-89. After reaching the Elite Eight last season, Mary Washington is 1-12 under former Cabrini coach Marcus Kahn.

All five starters scored in double figures, led by 31 points from Brandon Federici, as No. 11 Franklin and Marshall remained undefeated, defeating Washington College 88-80. The Diplomats overcame a game-high 34 points from the Shoremen's Dave Knox, who shot 13-for-22 from the floor. 

John Wickey scored a game-high 17 points to go along with eight rebounds, and Eric Dean recorded his third double-double of the season with 15 points and a game-high 11 boards as 15th-ranked Babson held off Springfield 59-56. It's Babson's 11th consecutive winNo. 5 St. Thomas won its seventh consecutive game, dismantling Concordia-Moorhead in a 64-38 win. Ryan Saarela had 10 points, 12 rebounds, four steals and two blocks for the Tommies. Trinity (Conn.) overcame 27 points by Joseph Lin and improved to 12-2, defeating Hamilton 60-51. Ed Ogundeko scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bantams, who won their 10th consecutive game.

Baruch came out of the locker room and scored 10 of the first 12 points in the second half, eight of them by Raymond De La Cruz, to take a nine-point lead, and survived a second-half rally to defeat Brooklyn 85-74. Brooklyn (12-5, 5-2 CUNYAC) lost for the second consecutive Saturday, while Baruch (9-3, 6-0) remained unbeaten in the league. Chris Cook finished with a game-high 25 points, including a 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift Hood over Widener 77-76.

Wesley rallied from a 21-point second-half deficit and Jordan Johnson hit a jumper with 11 seconds left in the second overtime as Wesley defeated Mary Washington 90-89. After reaching the Elite Eight last season, Mary Washington is 1-12 under former Cabrini coach Marcus Kahn. Alma won for just the third time all season but it was a big one, taking down Albion 64-60. 

Sean Cummings hit a layup off a feed from Ross Danzig with 10 seconds left in the game and No. 24 Scranton survived at home against 3-11 Goucher, 68-67. The Royals (12-2, 6-0 Landmark) have won six consecutive games since losing to Husson in the D3hoops.com Classic, winning by a total of 15 points. 

Bard matched its best Liberty League win total in its short history in the league and has already won more games than any of the previous six seasons as the Raptors won 78-77 at Union. The Dutchmen called a timeout they didn't have with 14 seconds left, allowing Alex Fabean-Scotch to sink two free throws to seal the win.

New Paltz State got back to .500, winning its fourth consecutive game and third SUNYAC contest of the week with a 75-62 win vs. Geneseo. Eric Regenbogen scored a game-high 21 for the Hawks. Trevon Butler and Matt Talbot scored 16 points apiece as Husson got Warren Caruso his 400th career win in a 78-64 defeat of Maine Maritime.

Bridgewater's Zach Hunter hit a 3-pointer from the corner with three seconds left in the game to lift the homestanding Eagles past Hampden-Sydney 76-75. It was Hunter's second game-winning shot of the season. Kyle Welty led the Eagles with 21 points. Zack Burnett hit a game-winning three-pointer with 12 seconds left to lift Lynchburg to a 72-70 victory over Eastern Mennonite. The Hornets trailed by 10 on multiple occasions in the second half before taking the lead with a 15-3 run. Marcus Badger scored a career-high 19 points and added seven assists as No. 16 Randolph-Macon defeated Guilford 72-54.
