Ryan Rebsom resigned his post as the Rockford head men's basketball coach on Wednesday effective immediately. Rebsom spent 11 years coaching at Rockford including 10 seasons as the head men's coach.

"I would like to thank coach Rebsom for his service over the past decade to Rockford University and the men's basketball program" RU athletic director Kristyn King stated. "Ryan has done an excellent job leading our men's basketball program and we are sad to see him leave, but we are excited for him and his family with the new opportunities that lie ahead within his new career."

The Regents are 3-10, 2-6 in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference. Rebsom's career mark was 93-152 (.380). Current assistant coach Andrew Weber will take over as the interim head men's basketball for the remainder of the 2014-15 season.

Rebsom is leaving the coaching profession, according to a report in the Rockford Register-Star

Rockford had most of its success under Rebsom in a four-year span from 2008-09 to 2011-12. The Regents were 53-51 in that time. During the 2008-09 season the Regents' 15-game improvement from the previous season was the best in the country that year and among of the best in NCAA Division III history. Rebsom was named the conference coach of the year as his team earned the third seed in the postseason tournament. Rebsom finishes his career leading the Regents to the NACC Tournament in five of his last six seasons.

"Leaving Rockford University was a very difficult decision for me to make as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here" Rebsom said. "I want to thank everyone who has supported me and my family over the past 11 years as this is truly a special place with a lot of great people. This was the best decision for both my and my family as I would like to wish everyone the best as I move onto the next chapter of my life."

A national search will take place to hire Rockford's next head coach following the season.
