Chatham University, which recently announced that it would start admitting men as undergraduates next fall, will add five men's sports in 2015, including basketball.

Chatham is a member of the Presidents' Athletic Conference for six women's sports, including basketball, and plays hockey in the ECAC West. Beginning in the 2015-2016 academic year, the university will sponsor men's basketball, cross country, swimming and diving, track and field, and volleyball.

As part of the transition, the university announced Andrew Garcia as the first men's basketball coach. Garcia is a Pittsburgh native who recently worked as an assistant at nearby Carnegie Mellon and was a walk-on for the University of Pittsburgh's football team in 2003.

Most recently Garcia spent three years as an assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon where he was the Tartans' recruiting coordinator, oversaw opponent scouting and organized video instruction. Before coming back to Pittsburgh, he served as an assistant coach for one season at Division II Flagler in Florida. He also spent two seasons as a graduate assistant at Division I Marshall.

As a student-athlete Garcia played three seasons of basketball at Tulane University where he led the Green Wave in assists for two years. As a senior, Garcia was the team's captain, a member of the Conference USA All-Academic Team and scored a career-high 23 points in a pivotal Conference USA game against the University of Southern Mississippi. Before attending Tulane, Garcia was a walk-on for the University of Pittsburgh's football team in 2003.

Garcia earned his bachelor's degree in history from Tulane in 2006 and completed his master's in adult and technical education at Marshall University in 2009.
