LAGRANGE, Ga. – With just five games and less than two weeks left in the regular season, LaGrange (14-6, 6-1 CCS) men's basketball hosts Maryville (11-8, 5-2 CCS) in a battle for first place in the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS) on Friday, February 3. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Mariotti Gym following the women's contest.
The teams come in separated by just a game in the standings with the Panthers having won three in a row and six of their last seven. That stretch began with an 88-84 victory at Maryville (1/6) and more recently has seen decisions over Covenant (74-61 on 1/17), Piedmont (80-77 on 1/25) and Huntingdon (80-74 on 1/31).
As for the Scots, they visit Mariotti with wins in five of their last seven, including in each of their past three outings. They posted convincing victories over Huntingdon (96-61 on 1/15) and Berea (89-65 on 1/21) and narrowly escaped Belhaven with an 84-83 win on January 28.
ALL-TIME SERIES
In a series that dates to the 1989-90 season, LaGrange trails Maryville 44-13. In a most improbable stretch, the Scots won the first 31 meetings through 2011, a streak ended by a 79-75 overtime Panther victory in the 2011-12 campaign. Since that time LC has played even with Maryville, splitting the next 26 meetings and have won the last two, equaling their all-time mark set three times previously. They delivered a 101-98 victory over the No. 11 ranked team in the country and an 88-84 decision on January 6 of this year.
