KING'S WOMEN'S HOOPS TEAM TO BEGIN SEASON ON WEDNESDAY AT NEUMANN

WILKES-BARRE, PA --- The King's College women's basketball team will tip off the 2017-18 season on Wednesday night when they travel down the turnpike to Aston where they will face Neumann University at 6:00 p.m. at The Mirenda Center.

The Lady Monarchs will look to improve on their 5-19 overall record and 3-11 mark in MAC Freedom play in the first season under Caitlin Hadzimichalis as the head coach in 2016-17.

King's will look for strong post play again this season as they return three of their top four scorers from last year who are all post players. Senior Olivia Hoffman led the team defensively last year recording 8.0 rebounds per game and recording a school record 95 blocked shots. She is currently is the school record holder with 258 blocks in her career. Last season she was ranked eighth in Division III in total blocks and sixth in blocks per game. Offensively she scored 8.2 points per game and recorded five double-doubles. Sophomore Rebecca Prociak led the team with 11.7 points per game last year and grabbed 6.6 rebound per game while recording five double-doubles. Prociak finished the year last year ranked 52nd in the nation with 158 free throw attempts and 81st in the nation with 104 made. Junior Alexis Steeber returns 8.8 points and 5.0 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Sara Wolbert and senior Maggie Michael are also returning post players who will look to help the Monarchs in the paint this season. Wolbert recorded 1.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game last season while Michael added 0.6 points and 0.9 rebounds per game.

At the guard position junior Erin Schmidt is back after becoming one of the best three-point shooters in the conference last year making 35.6 percent of her attempts while recording 4.7 points and 1.8 rebounds per game. Sophomore Kayla Dillinger is also back after she scored 2.0 points and grabbed 1.6 rebounds at the guard position last year. King's will also welcome back senior Rachael DeTore who did not play last year but is a familiar face after playing her first two years. She has scored 2.8 points and grabbed 1.6 rebounds per game while dishing out 33 assists in her career at King's.

King's added five new members to the squad this year with three transfers and two freshmen. Senior guard/forward Amber Farnholtz brings three years of collegiate experience to the team after two years at Northampton Community College and one year at Bryn Athyn College. Last season she averaged 4.1 points and 5.5 rebounds per game with one double-double for the Lions. Junior guard Lindsey Dippre comes to King's after two years at Lackawanna College. Last season Dippre scored doubled figures 12 times and recorded 8.8 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assist per game for the Falcons. Sophomore guard Mackenzie Yori transferred to King's after playing one season at University of Scranton. Yori started all 30 games for a Royals team that went 26-4 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. She recorded 6.1 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while dishing out 52 assists.

Freshman forwards Alexis Houghton and Hannah Gallagher will look to add more depth to King's post presence. Houghton comes to King's after playing for Hancock Central High School in Hancock, New York. Gallagher is no stranger to playing in McGrane Gymnasium, spending the fall as a member of the King's women's volleyball team after graduating from Delaware Valley High School in Milford, Pennsylvania.

King's will have a tough stretch of four games in seven days to begin the season. This weekend the Monarchs will play in the second annual Women's Cross County Challenge at Wilkes University. On Friday night they will face #19/#13-ranked University of Scranton at 6:00 p.m. and then they will face Marywood University on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The team will then play their first home game next Tuesday when they host Keystone College at 6:00 p.m.

The Lady Monarchs will travel down to Washington, D.C. to compete in the Jamie Lynn Roberts - Fairfield Inn Holiday Tournament at Catholic University on December 29th and 30th. They will face the host Cardinals on the first day at 3:00 p.m. before facing Vassar College on the second day at 1:00 p.m. King's will then open up conference play on January 3rd when they host Delaware Valley University at 8:00 p.m.
