After opening the 2021 season with back-to-back wins over Agnes Scott, the LaGrange College women's basketball team will look to continue rolling with matchups against Covenant on Thursday and Saturday.
The Panthers (2-0, 2-0 USA South) will host the Scots (1-9, 0-2 USA South) Thursday at 6 p.m. in Mariotti Gym. LC and Covenant will square off at 1 p.m. Saturday in Lookout Mountain, Georgia. The teams split the two-game series in 2019-20, with each program winning at home. Covenant was picked to finish four and LC was tabbed fifth in the USA South West Division Coaches' Preseason poll.
"The games between LaGrange and Covenant have been competitive over the last few years and we expect more of the same this year," said LaGrange College women's basketball head coach Jasen Jonus. "We are going to need to play four strong quarters to come out on top in these games. With a shortened season, every game is important for the standings. We need to be ready to play from the opening tip against a well-coached and hungry Covenant team."
During the 2019-20 season, LC defeated Covenant, 72-65, on Jan. 8 in Mariotti. Then-junior guard Jahpera McEachin scored a team-high 16 points. She shot 6-for-10 from the floor, 2-for-3 from the 3-point line and 2-for-2 from the charity stripe.
