There's a strong possibility that there won't be a shot-clock violation when the Keystone College men's basketball team takes on Neumann University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action at the Mirenda Center in Aston, Pa., this Saturday, January 27, beginning at 3:00 p.m.
With Keystone averaging nearly 82 points a game and Neumann 89, it's very unlikely the shot-clock will play much of a factor in Saturday's game.
And yet if the Giants are to pull off the win, they'll need to find a way to slow down the Knights, who have yet to lose at home this year (10-0) and are coming into Saturday's contest on a three-game winning streak.
Neumann will also be out to avenge a 91-80 loss to Keystone at the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume on December 2, a game in which the Giants shot nearly 61 percent from the field in the second half to overcome a two-point halftime deficit.
Senior guard Tyaire Hudson, who scored 19 points in the first meeting between the two teams, leads the Knights in scoring at 17.7 points per game, followed by junior forward Gemil Holbrook (14.6), sophomore guard Raquan Brown-Johnson (14.5), freshman forward Aaron Johnson-Chavis (14.0), and senior guard Billy Cassidy (13.1).
A win would keep Neumann in the hunt for the top spot and home-court advantage throughout the upcoming CSAC play-offs. The Knights are currently alone in third place, one game behind Cabrini and a game and a half behind league-leader Gwynedd-Mercy.
And while the Knights are on a roll, the Giants are looking to right the ship, after having dropped two straight and five of their last seven games to fall to 7-10 overall and 6-5 in the CSAC. They are now in fifth place, two and a half games behind Rosemont but only a half-game ahead of Marywood and a game in front of Immaculata in the battle to finish in the top six and advance to the CSAC play-offs.
Coach
Brad Cooper is hoping that sophomore center
John Kirkpatrick (Philadelphia, Pa./Northeast) and junior guard
Mark Perry (Harrisburg, Pa./Steelton Highspire) can continue to handle the inside scoring and rebounding duties for the Giants. In his last two games, Fitzpatrick is averaging 13.5 points while shooting nearly 63 percent from the field. Perry has had no problems adjusting to Cooper's style of play since transferring from Millersville University recently. In five games, he is averaging 18.0 points while shooting over 65 percent from the field and is the Giants' top rebounder with a 9.4 per game average.
After Saturday's game, Keystone will close out the month of January on Wednesday, the 31
st, by hosting Clarks Summit University in CSAC action beginning at 8:00 p.m. in the Gambal Athletic Center.
