Women’s Basketball to Host CC Tournament

Bullets host semifinals and championship Feb. 22-23

GETTYSBURG, Pa. For the second consecutive year, Gettysburg College will serve as host of the Centennial Conference Women's Basketball Championship beginning this Friday and Saturday (Feb. 22-23).

The Bullets, who finished the conference with an 18-2 record, have home court advantage throughout the playoffs.

Each time Gettysburg has hosted the Centennial Conference championship, the team has captured the title. Last season, the Bullets claimed their second championship by grinding out a hard-fought 44-35 victory over Haverford College, while Gettysburg defeated Swarthmore College 48-46 inside Bream Gym in 2013 to win its first conference title.

"It feels great to earn the right to host the conference tournament inside Bream Gym again this year," noted head coach Nate Davis. "With the quality of women's basketball programs in the Centennial Conference, it is not something that we take for granted."

Gettysburg (21-4), Johns Hopkins University (22-3, 18-2 CC), Haverford College (19-6, 15-5 CC), Ursinus College (17-9, 13-7), and Muhlenberg College (15-11, 11-9 CC), all of whom appeared in last year's playoffs, appear in this year's five-team playoff field. With Ursinus defeating Muhlenberg 57-38 in Tuesday's first round game, the Bullets take on Ursinus in Friday's first semifinal game at 6 p.m.

In the Centennial Conference championship game last season, the Gettysburg crowd was raucous and supportive, and this year, the Orange and Blue would like the environment to be the same.

"Last season, the campus and community support was tremendous and definitely made it a special memory for our players," said Davis. "We are hopeful to have the same great excitement and enthusiasm again this year. We want the fans to realize how important their support is to our team."

After notching its third consecutive 20-win season, Gettysburg is ready to carry the momentum into the Centennial Conference playoffs.

"It was definitely a great feeling to be able to finish off the regular season playing good basketball," commented Davis. "However, through experience, we realize that a new season has started. Nothing that we've done over the course of the year matters at this point," he continued. "It's up to us to go out and prove ourselves each and every game that we have the opportunity to play."

The two advancing teams will compete for the conference title on Saturday at 4 p.m. with the winner claiming an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Ticket process for this weekend's event are $5 for adults and $3 for youth 13-18. There will be no charge for children 12 and under and students from participating schools will be admitted for free with a college ID.
