🚨@nescacathletics Softball Player of the Week🚨

@batessoftball sophomore catcher Isabel Bettencourt has been named the NESCAC Player of the Week!

Bettencourt was almost impossible for opponents to get out on the Bates softball team’s season-opening trip to Florida. She hit safely in all 10 games, going 21-32 at the plate for a .656 batting average. Bettencourt tallied eight extra base hits, including two home runs. She drove in 18 runs on the trip, including seven in one game against Gallaudet. Bettencourt already has more hits through 10 games than she did all of last season.

She did all this while playing catcher all 10 games. Bettencourt did not allow a single passed ball and played errorless defense while guiding the Bates pitching staff to a 3.62 ERA.

The Bobcats travel to Bridgewater State for a doubleheader this Wednesday at 3 p.m.

@batesswimanddive - Max Cory ‘26
Cory broke the NCAA Division III record in the 100-yard freestyle and won the first national championship in Bates swimming and diving history Saturday night at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. Cory raced to the finish in 42.88 seconds in the championship final, breaking the previous D3 record of 42.98 seconds set seven years ago by Emory’s Oliver Smith. Cory got to Saturday’s championship final by swimming the fastest prelims time in the field that morning at 43.05 seconds. Then he torched the competition Saturday night, breaking through after having finished national runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle on Wednesday. His “slower” prelims time in the 100 free still would have won the national title, as runner-up David Bajwa of Calvin College raced to the finish in the championship final in 43.25 seconds. Cory, who is now a 10-time All-American, also helped the Bobcats achieve their best finish ever in a relay at NCAAs, when the 400-yard medley relay recorded the fastest time ever swam by a NESCAC school with their school-record mark of 3:12.09 in the championship final, good for third place. Cory and his relay teammates also achieved All-America honors with a seventh-place showing in the 200-yard medley relay. Overall, the Bates men’s team took 13th place at NCAAs, tallying 112 points. It’s the best finish at the NCAA Championships in the men’s swimming and diving program’s history.
