MEN'S PREVIEW: John Carroll

MEN'S PREVIEW: John Carroll

Coming off exam week, the Wilmington College men's basketball team faces an unique challenge in John Carroll Saturday. The Blue Streaks, who come into the game on a four-game winning streak, rotate their players into the game five at a time, and each group has their own strengths and weaknesses.

"John Carroll is a very explosive, solid basketball team," said Wilmington head coach K.C. Hunt. "They are a very balanced basketball team. I am impressed with how they share the basketball."

All five Blue Streak starters average in double figures, led by senior Jake Hollinger. The 6-6 forward shoots nearly 60 percent from the field in averaging 12.6 points and is third on the team with 4.6 rebounds.

Sophomore guard David Linane leads the team with 31 assists and is tied for second on the team with 11.6 points. David Caputo, a 6-8 forward, is converting nearly 70 percent of his shots in averaging 11.6 points. Junior David Wallack and senior David Hendrickson are averaging 11.2 and 10.6 points, respectively.

The main difference between the two platoons come on the defensive end. According to Hunt, the second group utilizes man pressure, while the starters utilize zone pressure.

Regardless of which platoon is on the court, rebounding will be key. John Carroll is plus-3.8 on the boards

"We have to keep them off the glass," said Hunt. "We have to be ready to fight on the glass."

Wilmington will be playing its first game in a week due to exam week, however, Hunt was pleased with how his team tackled the challenging times.

"Exam week can be difficult," said Hunt. "We didn't (practice) as long as usual, but we got some good work in. We had a couple good days in practice."
