Giants to put win streak on line Wednesday against Centenary at Gambal Athletic Center

Keystone looks to record its first 3-game winning streak since 2015

Coming off a pair of nail-biting victories, the Keystone College women's basketball team will look to make it three in a row when it hosts Centenary University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action Wednesday, February 14, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Gambal Athletic Center in La Plume.

With a win, the Giants can claim their first three-game winning streak since 2015.  It will also give them a chance to avenge a 61-43 loss to the Cyclones on January 11 in Hackettstown, New Jersey, a game in which they trailed by only three points at halftime before Centenary pulled away with a strong third-quarter effort.

Following Wednesday's game, Keystone closes out its 2017-2018 season at home on Saturday, February 17, against Notre Dame of Maryland University beginning at 1:00 p.m.  Prior to tip-off Nina Hodanich (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) will be honored as part of Senior Day festivities on campus.

Centenary news and notes:  the Cyclones are 10-13 overall and have clinched one of six spots in the upcoming CSAC tournament with an 8-6 league record.  They snapped a two-game skid last Saturday with a 62-51 victory over Notre Dame of Maryland University at home.  Senior forward Nicole Cartaino led Centenary in the game with 20 points and 13 rebounds, senior guard/forward Rachel Edwards had 15 points and 10 rebounds, and senior point-guard Amber Reisenwitz chipped in 16 points.  In the win over Keystone on January 11, Cartaino and Edwards combined for 46 points.    Cartaino currently leads the team in scoring (14.2) and field goal percentage (.617) and is second in rebounding (7.0).  Edwards' is Centenary's top rebounder (7.3) and also chips in 11.8 points per game.  The Cyclones are 4-3 on the road this year, including a 3-3 mark against CSAC opponents away from home.

Keystone news and notes (team):  Giants are coming off back-to-back one-point wins on the road over Cedar Crest, 49-48, and Immaculata, 67-66.  In Saturday's win at Immaculata, Keystone shot 42.2 percent from the field, its highest field goal percentage since shooting 45.6 percent against Clarks Summit on November 29. The Giants also knocked down 10 of 11 free throw attempts (.909), its best effort of the season.  Defensively, Keystone has held three of its last four opponents to less than 40 percent shooting from the field and has blocked 16 shots during this span.

Keystone news and notes (individual):  Sophomore center Maddy Moro (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) has recorded 'double-doubles' in points and rebounds in each of her last four games and eight times so far this season.  A two-time CSAC defensive player of the week selection (Jan. 7, Feb. 12), she is now only 14 rebounds away from moving into the top-10 on the Keystone College single-season list.  If she pulls down her current average of 11 per game, Moro will end up tied with Nicole Zapolski (271, 2004-2005) for ninth place.  Freshman forward Samy Farah (Sterling, Va./Potomac Falls) lends Moro a hand down low.  In last Saturday's win over Immaculata, she came off the bench and finished with 10 points, including six in the fourth quarter to help the Giants overcame a 49-46 deficit, and nine rebounds.  It was her seventh double-figure scoring output of the season.  She was a major reason the Keystone reserves out-scored the Immaculata reserves, 25-9.
