Men's
Omar St. John
St. John tied a school record by scoring 46 points in a win over
Medgar Evers on Tuesday. He followed up that performance with a
36-point effort against the Rochester on Saturday. He also hit a
go-ahead three-pointer with 22 seconds left in that game to defeat
the Yellowjackets. St. John averaged 31.7 points and 4.3 assists in
a 2-1 week, including a loss to Eastern Connecticut. He shot
34-for-65 from the floor (52 percent), 8-for-19 from 3-point range
(42 percent) and 19-for-24 from the line (79 percent).
Ahmad Smith
Smith averaged 23 points, 6.5 rebounds and three assists in a 2-0
week for the Gorloks. That included a 21-point night vs. MacMurray
featured 4-for-6 shooting from 3-point range and a much-needed 25
points in a 92-88 win at Loras. He shot 53 percent from the floor
for the week.
Andy Orr
Orr averaged 19.5 points and 13 rebounds in two games last week,
including playing a key role in Lebanon Valley's second-half
comeback win at unbeaten Messiah. Orr had 18 points and 17 rebounds
in a mid-week game at Delaware Valley that saw LVC nearly pull off
a comeback; at Messiah, the freshman scored 21 with nine rebounds,
four steals, and three assists, including three three-pointers in
the second half that helped LVC erase a 12-point deficit to win
83-80. Orr had 17 points in the second half. He shot 13-for-27 (52
percent) for the week, including 3-for-5 from 3-point range and
8-for-10 at the line.
Mitch Wettig
Wettig led Pacific in scoring in two contests in Hawaii, leading
the Boxers to a 1-1 week. He went 8-of-16 from the field and
2-of-3 from 3-point range in Friday's game against Cal Lutheran. He
was even better against Luther on Saturday, going 8-for-12 and
5-for-7 en route to 26 points. Wettig averaged 23.5 points per
game, connected on 57 percent from the field and 70 percent from
3-point range.
Chad Copeland
Copeland averaged 28.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals while
shooting 57.5 percent from the floor in a 1-1 week. He recorded his
third double-double of the year with 31 points, 11 rebounds and
three steals in a 75-70 win over Plymouth State on Tuesday.
Copeland then added 26 points with five rebounds and two steals in
a 72-68 loss to Southern Vermont.
Women's
Danyel Bradley
Danyel Bradley recorded back to back 30 plus point games this past
weekend at Southwestern's tournament. Bradley tied a career high
with 34 points along with 11 rebounds in a victory at tournament
host Southwestern, scoring the game-winning layup as time expired.
The next day she scored 33 points with 11 rebounds in a win over
Schreiner. She made 27 of 29 free throws. Bradley averaged 33.5
points, 11.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals.
Alanna Vose
Vose had 21 points and three steals, while making 6-of-10 from
behind the arc, as UNE topped Bowdoin for the second time in three
years following a 17-game losing streak.
Sydney Moss
Moss helped lead the Saints to a 2-0 record of their weekend
tournament. She recorded a pair of double-doubles, averaging 31.5
points and 10.0 rebounds per game, while totaling five assists and
recording four steals. Moss shot 60.5 percent (20-of-43) from the
floor and 57.1 percent (4-for-7) from 3-point range. In Saturday's
win over La Roche, Moss scored 27 points to become the 16th player
in Thomas More history to score 1,000 career points. She has 1,001
points in 36 games with the Saints.
Jah-Leah Ellis
Ellis averaged 21.7 points, 24.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 3.3 steals
and 1.7 blocks per game in helping the Blue Angels to a 3-0 week,
including repeating as Dr. Betty Shabazz Tournament champions. She
had 25 points, 27 rebounds, eight assists and three steals against
Old Westbury in the opening round of the Shabazz Tournament, then
capped off her tournament MVP weekend by falling an assist short of
a triple double, tallying 28 points, 27 rebounds and nine assists,
adding four steals and three blocks in the championship game win
over Yeshiva.
Lisa Murphy
Murphy led the Tartans to a 4-0 week while averaging 24.2 points
and 13.2 rebounds a game. She recorded three double-doubles and was
one rebound shy of a fourth. The sophomore scored a season-high 29
points in the team's 74-58 win against Grove City. She led the team
to the championship at Marietta's tournament, earning MVP honors.
In the championship game, Murphy hauled in a career-tying 21
rebounds. To start the week, Murphy tied a career-high with six
blocked shots against Penn State-Altoona.
