Kalamazoo head men's basketball coach Jay Smith is returning to Division I Michigan to join Juwan Howard's staff as the Wolverines' director of player personnel and development.
Jay Smith has been a head coach at the Division I and Division II levels in Michigan and now he'll be a head coach at the Division III level in that same state.
Kalamazoo College senior guard Mark Ghafari has been named to the 2013-14 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)/Capital One Academic All-America First Team. Joining Ghafari on the first team is Richie Bonney of Hobart (N.Y.), John Coleman of Clarkston (N.Y.), Brad Ford of Nazareth (N.Y.), and Dane Jobst of Worcester State (Mass.).
KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Kalamazoo junior forward Adam Peters was held in check for most of the game. The Hickory Corners native had scored just three points in the first 39 minutes, but after a miss from senior guard Mark Ghafari with less than 10 seconds remaining in regulation, Peters collected the offensive rebound and converted a layup while getting fouled.
