Chambersburg, Pa. -- The University of Lynchburg women's basketball team took down Wilson College, 70-38, on Wednesday night in Gannett Field House.
The Hornets (1-3) were led offensively by freshman guard Audra Petty with a game-high 16 points on 6-of-10 from the field, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc. She added three rebounds and two steals to her team-leading performance.
Junior forward Bree Spainhour and sophomore guard Kate Littlejohn each produced 12 points to add to Lynchburg's highest scoring total of the season. Spainhour also contributed nine rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals en rout to the victory. Littlejohn had the most steals in a game by a Lynchburg player this season with four while tallying four rebounds and two assists.
Lynchburg took over in the ending 4:03 before the halftime intermission, ending the half on a nine-point run to take an 11-point advantage heading into the break. Spainhour hit two buckets for four points during the rally while junior guard Brooke Cason drained a 3-pointer and Petty put through the last basket of the first half.
After the Pheonix's Adrianna Stricek tallied four points to open the half, the Hornets closed out the third quarter on a 17-1 run. Petty contributed two 3-pointers and Littlejohn added five points during the stretch. Lynchburg outscored Wilson 18-10 in the final 10 minutes to seal the victory. Junior guard Ashley Vandergrift hit two 3-pointers and Petty scored five points in the final period.
Next time out, the Hornets will meet Washington and Lee on the hardwood in Turner Gym for the team's first ODAC competition of the season on Saturday, November 23 at 1 p.m.
