LaGRANGE, Ga. – Ella Haney recorded her first double-double of the season as Maryville (4-9, 2-3 CCS) was defeated by LaGrange (10-4, 4-1 CCS) 69-56 Saturday afternoon in the Mariotti Gymnasium.
Haney scored 12 points and picked up 10 rebounds in the contest. This marks her first double-double of the season and just the second of her career. The Sophomore's first double-double came over a year ago when she scored 26 and recorded 10 boards against Birmingham-Southern in December 2022.
The Panthers came out of the locker room ready to play, scoring first in the game just 13 seconds into the matchup. They opened the game on a 15-3 run and would hold the lead for all 40 minutes of play.
LaGrange went into the second quarter with a 22-11 lead. Maryville would find its footing in the second quarter, outscoring Panthers 17-13, marking their best 10 minutes of play in the contest.
LaGrange would outscore the Scots 16-14 and 18-14 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively. The Panthers recorded their largest lead of the day (16 points) with 2:52 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
If you remove LaGrange's dominant first quarter, The Panthers outscored MC just 47-45 in the remaining 30 minutes of play.
Courtney Carruthers and Sophie Tharpe were the other double-digit scorers for Maryville, each scoring 10 points. Carruthers has now scored 10 or more points in seven of her 10 games played this season, while Tharpe's performance marked her second double-figure game of the season.
Kadence Stoner scored a season-high nine points, all coming in Maryville's strong second quarter. She also contributed six rebounds, second on the squad behind Haney.
MC's bench outscored LaGrange's 29-14, led by Tharpe and Stoner.
Maryville is back at home Friday and Saturday with another slate of conference games. The Scots will face off against Belhaven on Friday at 5 p.m. and Piedmont on Saturday at 2 p.m.
